Mr. Francis John Dennes who died at Wingham on Monday morning 14th July 1941 aged 90 years and 3 months was born at Connellys Creek at what is now called Norwood on 7 April 1851. His ancestress was Mrs. Mary Cann nee Osgood, who arrived in Sydney on September 12 1823 by the ship Allies from London. On arrival she went with Mr. John Boughton and his family to Vineyard Cottage, Paterson River. Here she married Mr. William Chapman on 5 January 1824 who arrived in Port Jackson by the brig Fame on 12 September 1822. They had three children Emma, Ann and William. William Chapman died at the Paterson on 25 July 1827 aged 24 . Mrs Mary Chapma his widow married Mr. James Cann a windower and native of Devon. They had four children Susannah, Frances, Henry and Mary Anne. After the death on 22 May 1834 of James Cann, Mrs. Mary Cann with all her children except Emma travelled overland to the Manning River where she settled for a time at Gooran Bo Bo Creek. The first marriage ceremony performed at Bungay Bungay was that of Susannah Cann to Francis Dennes on October 30 1848. This Mr. Francis Dennes arrived in Sydney during the year 1832 by the ship Burrell. He was a native of Truro, Cornwall where he was born in 1816.
